I would be remiss if I didn’t at least acknowledge that this is the first blog post in 5 months. There – I did it. Can we all just move on now? No? Ok, but 5 months of update is a little daunting right now so can we at least take a rain check? Great. Moving on…
You might not believe it when you hear my accent (the locals don’t) but I grew up in Louisville, Ky. I always loved the fun and funky vibe in Louisville but nowadays I have another reason to love Louisville: the Keep Louisville Weird campaign.
Keep Louisville Weird is a campaign to preserve all that is unique – weird – about Louisville. That includes all the homegrown businesses. Matt and I don’t leave our local ideals in Illinois when we go on vacation. After all, when in Rome – buy Roman. So while visiting relatives this summer we did our part to keep Louisville weird.
We started every day by strolling over to the locally owned Heine Brothers Coffee shop (“Keep Louisville Wired”) for a couple of cups of their organic, fair trade coffee that they roast themselves. Mmm. I also fed my book addiction by buying a few from Carmichael’s books.
We fed our music addiction at ear-x-tacy – local music from a local store, double score! And Cumberland Brews (“Keep Louisville Beer’d”) gave us microbrewed beer and fried green tomatoes with diablo sauce. (Could seriously eat that every. day.)
A very satisfying, very weird, vacation. But the best usually are.
